BMW E30 History
Launched in 1982, the BMW E30 is the second-generation 3 Series and a genuine icon in the classic car world. Early models featured crisp Luthe styling and robust mechanicals, offering coupe, four-door, convertible, Touring estate, and rare Baur Targa variants. The E30’s range evolved rapidly, introducing models like the 325i with six-cylinder power, the 318iS with a sporty four-cylinder, and the legendary M3 (introduced in 1986).
The M3, with its box arches, flatter C-pillars, and distinct rear wing, became a motorsport legend; offered in standout shades such as Brillantrot and Macaoblau Metallic. Notable paint introductions included Delphin Metallic, Lachssilber Metallic, and Diamantschwarz Metallic, alongside vibrant colours like Hennarot and Alpinweiss.
After a major facelift in 1987 (featuring plastic bumpers, larger taillights, and new engines), special models like the Evolution, Cecotto, and Ravaglia Editions appeared, sporting unique hues (e.g. Nogarosilber, Misano Red). E30 production wound down in 1991 for saloons but continued for Touring and Convertibles until 1994, solidifying its status as a highly prized, collectable classic.
