  • Directions for use

    Prepare & Clean

    1. The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and grease is removed. For best results use PaintNuts Panel Wipe and a Degreasing Cloth.

If you have a deep scratch or chip OR if you can see bare metal or plastic, we recommend using PaintNuts Primer first - if rust is present, we suggest our Rust Convertor as well.

    Shake & Test

    1. Shake bottle thoroughly for 2-3 minutes to ensure the paint is thoroughly mixed.
    2. Unscrew to access the brush attached to the lid within the paint. Before using the brush, please ensure you remove any excess paint from the stem of the brush, i.e scrape inside of the bottle neck.
    3. Test a small amount of paint within the damaged area to check the colour match – give it 15 minutes to dry as paints can often appear different in colour; inside the bottle, when still wet or if applied incorrectly or onto original undamaged paint work.

    Paint & Finish

    1. Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes ensuring you only apply the paint within the damaged area.
    2. Leave the paint to dry for 15 minutes before applying a second coat if required. Leave the paint to cure 1 hour before applying lacquer or polishing.

PLEASE NOTE: – cold, damp weather can adversely affect the application, finish, and drying time of paints.

Designed for the thorough repair of:

Perfect product for the job

The PaintNuts touch-up bottle is ideal for large chips, scuffs and grazes. Below is our recommended guide for using and applying touch-up paint effectively.

If you have a deep scuff, chip or graze OR if you can see bare metal or plastic, we recommend using PaintNuts Primer first - if rust is present, we suggest our Rust Convertor as well.

How to use the PaintNuts Bottle

Simple steps for a perfect touch up
Do this in three simple steps...
  • Mix and check
  • Prepare the area
  • Apply the products
STEP ONE1
How to use the PaintNuts Grey PrimerUse the Grey Primer
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed. If rust is present, we suggest a rust treatment as well.
  • Mixing - Shake bottle thoroughly for at least 1 minute to ensure the primer is mixed correctly.
  • Application - Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allow the brush to sit inside the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Leave the primer to dry for up to 30 minutes before applying any further coats, if no further coat is required, then leave to cure for 1 full hour before applying the PaintNuts Colour Matched Touch Up Pen.
STEP TWO2
How to use the PaintNuts Colour Matched Touch Up PaintUse the Colour Matched Paint
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed.
  • Mixing & Colour Check - Shake the bottle for 2-3 Minutes to ensure the paint is thoroughly mixed correctly (if your paint is a Metallic Paint, you may notice the paint has separated within the bottle, this paint will need a vigorous shake, then test in a discreet area to check the colour match leaving the paint to dry for 15 minutes – paints will often appear different in colour inside the bottle, when wet or if applied incorrectly.
  • Application - Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allow the brush to sit inside the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Do Not apply new paint on top of existing paint as this will leave the area of repair looking lighter or darker. Leave the colour matched paint to dry for up to 15 mins before applying any further coats, if no further coat is required, then leave to cure for 1 full hour before applying the PaintNuts Clear Lacquer.
STEP THREE3
How to use the PaintNuts Clear LacquerUse the Clear Lacquer
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed.
  • Mixing - Shake bottle thoroughly for at least 1 minute to ensure the lacquer is mixed correctly.
  • Application - Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allow the brush to sit inside the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Leave the lacquer to dry for up to 30 minutes before applying a second coat if required, if no further coat is required, you must leave the lacquer to cure for 4 hours before you use any buffing or polishing solution/compound.

How do you touch up scratches with a bottle and brush?

PaintNuts colour-match touch-up bottle is particularly useful for touching up and addressing scratches and chips. For the right way to use it, follow the steps below:

  1. Prepare & clean -  first, smooth the surface with wet and dry sandpaper to reduce any imperfections. For best results, we recommended the Nortan Topcoat sanding sheets.
  2. Apply a primer (optional) - If you are addressing a deep scratch or chip, or you can see bare metal or plastic, we suggest you use PaintNuts Primer first. If rust is present, use our Rust Converter as well.
  3. Shake to mix - Shake the colour-match paint for 2-3 minutes to mix it thoroughly. Then, scrape any excess paint from the brush stem against the bottle to remove it.
  4. Test the paint - Apply a small amount of paint to the damaged area to check the colour match. Then, wait for 15 minutes for it to dry. Please be aware that the paint colour can appear different when wet.
  5. Apply the paint  - Using the brush, apply thin, light coats of paint using smooth strokes, ensuring the paint remains in the damaged area.
  6. Assess for a second coat - Allow the paint to dry for 15 minutes, and assess whether you need to apply a second coat.
  7. Allow the paint to cure - After you’ve applied the final coat of colour-matched touch-up paint, let the paint cure for 1 hour before applying lacquer or polishing.

How long does bottle and brush touch-up paint last?

PaintNuts bottle & brush touch-up paint is 50ml. How long that lasts depends on what needs addressing on your bodywork. Small, shallow scratches require less paint than larger pieces of damaged bodywork like deep scratches, scuffs and dents.
